ATHLETE CAREER AND EDUCATION
A sound academic and career planning strategy has a positive impact on athletics. The mission of USSA
Athlete Career and Education and performance lifestyle is to support the whole person to help improve
athletic performance, increase longevity in the sport, initiate successful careers and cultivate long-term connections to and support of USSA. USSA Athlete Career and Education has continued to expand
and diversify. Heading into the 2014-15 season, USSA Athlete Career and Education is now a standalone
department under Vice President George ‘Jory’ Macomber, who brings in over two decades of education
experience in the ski academy world.
A vital benchmark program since 2005, the tuition
partnership with Salt Lake City’s Westminster
College has been pivotal to the success of
athletes training at the Center of Excellence.
A total of 23 USSA student athletes from
Westminster made up 10% of the entire Team
USA roster on the Sochi Olympic Team, including
five medalists. A dozen USSA athletes and alumni
are on pace to graduate in May, 2015 - the biggest
class in the history of the agreement. The USSA’s
Westminster students are maintaining a 3.56 GPA.
