A FORMER USSA AND COLLEGIATE SKI RACER, NEW HAMPSHIRE NATIVE DEXTER PAINE HAS LED THE USSA AS ITS CHAIRMAN SINCE
2006. HE CURRENTLY SITS AS A VICE PRESIDENT ON THE FIS COUNCIL AND SERVED ON THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF THE 2015
FIS ALPINE WORLD SKI CHAMPIONSHIPS. A LIFELONG PASSIONATE DEVOTEE OF SKI AND SNOWBOARDING COMPETITION, PAINE IS A
SUCCESSFUL GLOBAL BUSINESSMAN AS CHAIRMAN AND CEO OF PAINE & PARTNERS, A NEW YORK BASED PRIVATE EQUITY FIRM, WHICH
INVESTS PRIMARILY IN THE FOOD AND AGRIBUSINESS SECTORS. HE IS ONE OF TEAM USA’S BIGGEST FANS.
A strong culture of excellence has long been key to the USSA’s athletic success. The 2014-15 season offered the USSA an opportunity
to reflect on that success and determine how we could instill this culture of excellence more broadly across our organization. Working
towards better alignment and integration with the USSA community is an integral part of the foundation that will allow us to advance
both athletically and organizationally leading up to the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang.
In a World Championship year, our athletes were truly Best in the World, bringing home more medals than any other country. The USSA
and Vail Valley Foundation came together to host one of the most successful FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Vail/Beaver Creek.
Thousands of fans packed the stands each day to watch alpine’s best battle it out on Raptor and Birds of Prey. The USSA was also
able to spearhead the broadcasting and streaming of the alpine and nordic World Championships, showcasing our sports to millions
of fans all over the United States and the world.
While our athletes were dominating the world stage, the leaders of our organization were working hard to identify ways we could
continue to support the success of our national teams while also extending our reach to embrace the entire breadth of our sports.
Input from our partners and stakeholders, complemented by in-person feedback from sport-specific task forces, has lead to multiple
changes throughout the USSA, including a new, lower-cost membership structure and a renewed focus on engaging with and growing
As a leader of the USSA and a fan of our sports, I am proud of the initiative our organization has taken to cultivate excellence. Under the
leadership of Tiger Shaw, we have acknowledged the challenges we face as an organization and made the commitment to tackle these
challenges head on. Looking forward, we will continue to empower our national teams, clubs, coaches, parents, officials, volunteers
and fans to achieve excellence in support of being Best in the World.
